What up oppo. Here’s the deal my mom is looking to get herself a new SUV this year. Currently she drives a highlander and wants something different. She has so far tried the Murano, grand Cherokee, kid sorrento and Buick Enclave and hated them all. She said the new pathfinder is tolerable but nothing she would be overly excited about. What direction do I point her? SUVs were never my thing I’ve only owned a 94 Wrangler and an 06 z neither of which being what she is looking for. Where to go? Volvo maybe? Pic is just for funsies

X3, X5, CX-5, Q5. All have better driving dynamics than everything else she’s already driven.

I rode in an R Class once - law firm sent me home in one. I like it a lot. Nice ride.

I always thought, if forced to buy a vehicle in this class, I’d go Volvo. And never M Class.

Mazda CX-9 Signature (or GT if she doesn’t want the auburn leather).

I sat in one the other day. This is the nicest 3 row crossover I’ve sat in, save for the new XC90. Even miles above the Merc GLS or new X5.

My mom just got a XC60 T6 that I find pretty good for a crossover, so I’d nominate that. As much as I hate to admit it, the Venza could be worth trying. It’s like a more wagonish highlander, why not?

Newer Highlander, or RX350 maybe? They look really nice and are way different then the Highlander. If she wants smaller the NX200t would be my first choice.

New CX-9 or XC90. Both are incredibly nice vehicles .

We picked up an Explorer this spring. Not particularly sporting to drive, but for a family vehicle and for covering ground it is very nice.

South Jersey? Subaru Forester.

1. There’s a reason it’s “SUV” of the year whenever it gets updates.

2. It’s the closest kindred to the Highlander she had (tall wagon format) while not looking completely like ti so she feels like there’s some departure from it.

3. Turbo. 6.2 to 60 is needed for merging onto the ACE.

The Turbo XT Premium with the auto-dimming mirror (you want it, just get it) and floor-mats is under $30k sales price and gets ~26 mpg daily driving (according to my neighbor who bought one at my suggestion they check it out.)

There are programs in place on them too, so there are rebates, financing and lease deals. Also, if she is a leasee, ALG has the Forester as the highest residual value of all new SUVs in it’s category, so bang for your buck there too.

The Forester comes immediately to mind. Range Rover?

I got to see one of those Lambos up close and personal once. Looks like an aircraft engine under the hood. The body looked like it had been hand crafted.

I have an acquaintance with an R-class Mercedes and they complain about the cost and comlexity of maintenance.
